Another Terrific Year. Summer/Fall 2016

Email address change: Please change our e-mail address to mkyankee@gmail.com

It's been almost a  year since our family blog has been updated.

  • Every time you tear a leaf off a calendar, you present a new place for new ideas and progress. Let's hope so.

Happily, we can share that the months have been kind to us.

Our kids and grandkids are well and happy.

All we can ask for.

We've enjoyed spring and summer with our Long Island family and friends. Some of our Delray playmates are also Snowbirds so we have played nicely with them. Won't be long before we return to VR (Virtual Reality to the uninitiated); last two weeks in October and again following Thanksgiving and an early Chanukah.

Hadn't realized Canasta could be this much fun (to view the video, FB FRIENDS can view it on my Facebook page)

The Cardinals won our division decisively and drew a bye for the first round of the playoffs.  Today we completed round three of the playoffs in the morning game.  But in the afternoon game we dug a hole for ourselves, blowing a 7-4 lead against our rival Dodgers, in the first-of-three finals. I still expect that we will take the league championship next Wednesday. Stay tuned.  Prime seating remains for Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Cantiague Park in Hicksville.  Bring your own refreshments.

Ethan turned thirteen. So proud of him.
Uncle Jay, Aunt Stephanie, Cousin Jolie

Poppy, Grandma Alice, Aunt Shelly, Uncle Bruce

Ethan and Emmy have had another wonderful summer at Blue Ridge and Equinunk.

Emmy has hit double digits and is running

Jolie has begun kindergarten and loves her teachers and classmates.

Brynn has graduated to a bed and begins pre-school when she turns three in November.

                                          ************

Oh, to be a kid again during summer.

Nothing beats chasing butterflies, jumping into a pool . . .

         . . . playing games with the little ones . . .

      . . . celebrating weddings and birthdays
The Ladies (sans Jolie and Brynn)
and The Men

. . . and just hanging with family and friends.

Friday morning ROMEO breakfast--an institution

                                     Missing a Good Friend

John Hinton was a great Yankees fan--almost as great a baseball fan as he was a teacher.  Mostly he was a wonderful, talented friend.

Will miss our consulting trips to Chicago, sharing ideas about mathematics teaching methods, and spring lunches at Applebee's debating the merits of our Yankees winning or losing the pennant. Must say I was frequently the more optimistic of the two of us.

It's a long, long time from May to December

Oh, it’s a long, long while
from May to December

But the days grow short

when you reach September . . .

Where has summer gone?  Seems Alice and I were just watching the hyacinths and daffodils popping up.

And shortly we'll be packing for Delray Beach. Time is moving  along so quickly--that means life has been good.

Not sure I can do that with a basketball. Never could. (What's more, I may be losing my grip).

School's Out. Now the Fun Begins. Time Sure Does Fly.

Here's hoping Emmy learns to play the clarinet better than Poppy and Lauren. Then again, she may actually practice from time to time.

Poppy and Grandma are going to have to learn the rules of lacrosse. Clueless.

Has it been that long since Brynn was getting around on her butt?

Sunshine loves flowers

End of another school year. Emmy can't wait for fourth grade.

Ethan off to Merrick Middle School.  A joyful yet terrifying moment for grandparents.

Summer Fun Awaits

Visiting Day at Blue Ridge/Equinunk

Summer lovin', had me a blast

Summer lovin', happened so fast

Summer days drifting away

Take me out to the ball game
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks
I don't care if I never get back

Dearest fadduh, darling muddah,
How's my precious little bruddah?
Let me come home if ya miss me
I will even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me.

The nose knows

Bees'll buzz, kids'll blow dandelion fuzz
And I'll be doing whatever snow does
In summer

Summertime, and the livin' is easy

On an island in the sun
We'll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain

Summer days driftin' away
To uh-oh, those summer nights

Splish, splash, I was takin' a bath
Long about a Saturday night
A rub dub, just relaxin' in the tub
Thinkin' everythin' was alright

They say that all good things must end some day

Autumn leaves must fall

But don't you know that it hurts me so

To say goodbye to you

Wish we didn't have to go

No no no no

                                           ***************

. . . Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few

September, November

And these few precious days I'll spend with you

And the wine dwindles down to a precious brew

September, November

And these few vintage years I'll spend with you

These precious years I'll spend with you

Barletta Way

Now when we look back over all the fun we had
If our lifestyle's over now it sure is sad
We gotta get back to livin' without a care
Give me sunshine water                      and an ozone layer
